Missing LeGrande

It has only been 21 days since LeGrande went into the MTC.  I never realized how difficult it would be for us to live without him, but then again, there is no place that I would rather he be than serving as a missionary.  John and I constantly talk about how good this will be for him, and for us.  Already we are seeing the blessings that have come from his willingness to serve.

I know that it wasn't an easy decision for him to make.  Just a few months ago, he met with an army recruiter trying to decide between military and mission.  I think after talking to several people, including a brother in our ward, Austin LeFevre, he decided that maybe he could do a mission and then go into the military.  He also talked with our son-in-law, Jace about having to make a decision. Once he decided, it was only a few weeks until he had his paperwork done and sent in.

When LeGrande got his call, he was so excited.  Long Beach, California.  I was worried at first because I knew he wanted to go foreign and learn a new language, but he was the one that pointed out that this was where the Lord wanted him to be.  It only helped things to know that his mission president is a long time friend/acquaintance of John, would be his president and would leave about the same time as LeGrande.  We know that he and his wife will look out after our son.

LeGrande flew out to Long Beach yesterday, and the mission president's wife sent an email with pictures.  I will include them below.  This is the letter from Sister Patterson:

"We are so thankful Elder Bair has safely arrived in the California Long Beach Mission! President Patterson told me he felt so impressed after his interview with Elder Bair.  He is humble and teachable, two attributes a successful missionary must have in order to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. How we love the entire Bair family.  Elder Bair will serve in the Long Beach West Area with Elder Ho Ching.

Sister Patterson"

So obviously it has been a VERY LONG TIME since I have posted.  Since it has been so long, I will not attempt to cover all that has gone on, and will just try to give a brief update as to our family.  John and I still live in Springville.  Jace Kelly, who we love and adore, married our daughter Katie, on January 16, 2014.  We are so grateful for what he has brought to our family.  LeGrande graduated from Springville High School on May 24th of this year, and is actually currently serving a mission.  He is in the missionary training center, but will leave for his mission in Long Beach California in just a couple of weeks.  Words can't express how excited we are for him.  Emma finished her eighth grade year at Springville Junior High School, and will begin ninth grade serving in the student council.  The latest addition to our family, aside from Jace, is Milo.  He is our adorable little miniature schnauzer whom we love and adore.  I am attaching some photos of the last goodbyes for LeGrande.
